History
The EDF has had a long track record of success. Since its inception in 1993, it has attracted 120 corporations to the City, assisted in the expansion of 21 others and helped retain seven more. This performance translates into the creation and absorption of over 7.3 million square feet of office and industrial space in 14 years of service to the community. The EDF acts essentially as a liaison between businesses and the City, helping the companies navigate the development and permitting processes.

In 1993, the EDF set a long-term goal to double the
FY 1992 non-residential tax base, which was $475 million, by build out (currently scheduled for FY 2009). Incredibly, the EDF has more than doubled the commercial tax base, reaching the $1.7 billion mark for FY 2007, which is 186 percent of our original goal.

Mission
The EDF mission is to implement an economic program, which through careful planning and public/private cooperation, will diversify the commercial tax base, consistent with the City’s quest to be the premier community in which to live, work and raise a family.

Accomplishments
EDF efforts allow the City to keep residential property taxes at one of the lowest rates in Broward County (for full-service cities with more than 70,000 people) by bolstering the commercial tax base with each new business. In fact, the City hasn’t raised its operating millage rate since the EDF began 15 years ago.

Since its inception, the EDF has worked on 123 new projects, established more than 5,000 companies, developed 7.3 million square feet of new construction, held 21 retentions, more than tripled the non-residential tax base, and created more than 14,000 new jobs in Coral Springs. All of these accomplishments have totaled an economic impact of $674,999,627.
