City launches Business Recognition Program to acknowledge long-time business owners

The City of Coral Springs recognized a number of long-standing local businesses at the annual City-sponsored Chamber of Commerce Wakeup Breakfast on January 18, 2011. The City’s Business Recognition Program is an ongoing effort to acknowledge companies that have been in business in the City for more than 20 years as of January 2011.

Long-time business owners are encouraged to provide their contact details so they may receive a special recognition that celebrates their long history in the City and contributions to the community.

The businesses recognized in January were Advanced Cable Communication, Allstate Insurance, Art Plumbing & Air Conditioning, Inc., Auto Works Collision and Paint, Condo Management Alternative, Inc., Capital Abstract & Title, Coral Springs Auto Tag and Insurance Agency, Coral Springs Melting Pot, Darrow Chiropractic Center, Dr. Benjamin Graber, M.D., Frank J. Petraglia & Associates Insurance, Inc., Johnson & Walters P.A., JWN Corporation, Mrs. P's Dance and Acrobatics Studios, Sample Road Animal Hospital, and Dr. Louis Wasserman, O.D., P.A. of Wasserman Chiropractic.

City offers informational videos to help local businesses gain a competitive edge

As a result of input from the local business community, the City and the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation have created a video-on-demand series to help local business owners navigate the current tough economic environment.

The series is part of the City’s CSBizAssist program, a comprehensive business sustainability initiative undertaken since Fiscal Year 2009 to help improve the overall performance of local businesses. The new video series, developed in partnership with numerous local subject matter experts, features topics geared toward helping local businesses and entrepreneurs survive and thrive in this financial climate.

Videos currently available cover topics including how businesses can gain a competitive edge, Internet marketing solutions for success and practicing self-care during stressful times. CSBizAssist: Reaching out to Coral Springs businesses

The City of Coral Springs recently undertook a comprehensive initiative to support local businesses and help them address challenges within the current economic environment. The effort was implemented in concert with the Economic Development Foundation, the City's private, non-profit agent for economic development.

Support resources offered by the City are based on findings from an April 2008 survey of area business owners. Survey respondents cited a number of areas in which they have an interest in City support, including:

• Developing strategic alliances
• New business development
• Executive networking
• Customer service training
• Business strategies
• Marketing

The survey laid the foundation for the broader initiative, which involves partner organizations Broward College, Barry University, the Coral Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Sterling Council, SCORE, the Small Business Administration and others.
